The St. Louis DSA Criminal Justice Reform Committee seeks to move us towards a world with a socialist interpretation of justice. We affirm that there is no “reforming” the system of injustice created and maintained by capitalism. We affirm that policing is not public safety, and that imprisonment is not rehabilitation. We affirm that current models of public safety under capitalism rely on repression and violence, and work to maintain systems of racial, gender, and economic oppression.

Our work aims to reduce the existing harms of our current criminal justice system, to critically engage the public on the all-too-common idea that policing and prisons are benefits to society, and to take action that reduces state and corporate power of repression over all people’s lives.
