After May Day, the fight for the working class continues!

May 3, 2021

This past Saturday was May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, a holiday with a long history and association with socialists, who recognize the importance of the working class as the engine of change in fighting the exploitation of capitalism and the oppressions the ruling class use to maintain its hold on power. With help from other members, St. Louis DSA’s Megan Green, 15th Ward alderwoman, introduced a resolution that passed unanimously, recognizing this important day. In Tower Grove Park, members gathered together in solidarity—the first of hopefully many more in-person events, as we emerge from the worst of the pandemic.

But we know that the fight for the working class must go beyond one day. The good news is that Congress is currently debating the PRO Act, which, if passed, would be one of the most consequential pro-labor bills since the New Deal.

Currently, DSA has a massive phone banking campaign going on to apply pressure to Congress, but we need extra help! DSA needs to raise funds to keep phone banking moving, so if you can afford to do so, please donate here. If you want to help out by making calls, please sign up for a phone-banking shift here.

2021 DSA Convention: Attend a Pre-Convention Conference; Self-Nominate to Be a Delegate

DSA’s 2021 Convention, “From the Ashes of the Old: Socialism for a New Tomorrow,” is online-only and takes place Sunday August 1, through Sunday, August 8.

All members in good standing can both register to attend one of the many pre-convention conferences, as well as self-nominate to be a delegate representing STL DSA at the national convention. Note, you don’t have to be a convention delegate to attend a pre-convention conference.

If you’re interested in attending one of the pre-convention conferences, be aware, each event has a different registration deadline. Registration for the Saturday, May 15, conference is already closed.

Those wanting to self-nominate to be a delegate at the national convention must do so before the May Chapter Meeting on Tuesday, May 25.

Congratulations to SocFem for Raising More Than $8,000 to Support Abortion Access!

STL DSA's Socialist Feminist Working Group was the top team for Missouri Abortion Fund’s Fund-a-Thon campaign this year! They contributed about 30% of the total funds raised by MOAF.

Thank you to everyone who joined our team, fundraised for us, and donated to our team members! These funds directly support abortion seekers in Missouri, as well as Missourians seeking abortions throughout the United States. As abortion access is increasingly under attack at the local, state, and federal levels, it is more important than ever to join the fight for reproductive justice.
