Happy Labor Day from STL DSA!
On Labor Day, we celebrate the power of the working class and the unions that built that power.
But the fight isn’t over! There are still too many workers who are working tirelessly for low wages with no benefits. We need to struggle alongside working people for higher wages, better benefits and legislation like the Pro Act to ensure all workers have the right to organize.
STL DSA Annual General Meeting Next Month: Get Involved Now to Help with Next Steps!
One more reminder that our annual General Meeting, where we decide on local priorities and elect chapter officers, is coming up in just a little over a month! Already, our members have started thinking about the important and essential work of growing our movement, the largest socialist organization in the country.
Nominations are open until the end of this month to run for our 2021-22 Executive Committee, run for one of our two Comrades-at-Large positions, or to chair one of our Committees. Any current member in good standing can run for any of these positions, and if you aren’t a member (yet) — you can join! If you have questions about any of these roles, please reach out to the current Executive Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, folks within the chapter are beginning to figure out how to bring the resolutions passed at the national convention home to our work in St. Louis. There are already groups starting to look at several specific priorities, including Labor, Electoral, and the Green New Deal, and we are looking for more help! You can fill out this form, and we will connect you to some of the upcoming planning meetings that will take place before the September General Meeting.
STL DSA at Tower Grove Pride on Sept. 25: Sign Up for a Shift!
St. Louis DSA is returning to Tower Grove Pride (in Tower Grove Park) on Saturday, September 25 - and we need volunteers to help! Most shifts involve working the STL DSA table that day, but we also need members to help with setup and clean-up shifts, as well. We highly encourage members with trucks, vans or large-sized vehicles to sign up for one of those shifts, so you can help with moving some of the materials that day.
If you’d like to help with one of the shifts that day, please fill out the Pride Tabling form here (including the Sign-up Sheet linked in the form). If you’ve already put your name down on the Sign-up Sheet, then you just need to complete the form.
Note, we’ll also schedule a tabling training a few days before the event for all volunteers. This will help get us all comfortable with talking to people about DSA.
