IMPORTANT! Chapter Meeting tomorrow!
Another reminder that tomorrow night (Tuesday, 1/26) is our January Chapter Meeting—the first of 2021. We will have updates on the campaigns, priorities, and activities STL DSA has been hard at work on, including fighting privatization and protecting public ownership, and hearing from municipal candidates for the city of St. Louis spring elections. The first half of the meeting is open to all, but at the end we will have a members-only portion to debate endorsements, and hear from two STL DSA members running to fill vacancies on our Executive Committee! Not a member (or need to renew?)—please join here! All members at the national level have full voting rights and privileges with the local chapter. See you all tomorrow!
Say No to the Spy Plane!
Last week, the St. Louis City Board of Aldermen passed Board Bill 200 to advance to the Final Vote by a vote of 15-14. Board Bill 200 gives Persistent Surveillance Systems the right to fly spy planes above the city. These unmanned planes were originally used for war and are another step towards the militarization of police. In addition, having a private corporation working with the State to monitor and collect data on its residents is a violation of our civil liberties and should terrify socialists. Fortunately, there is still time for us to defeat the bill from passing though. The Board of Aldermen still must vote to finalize the bill, and private investors have said they want additional funding and community support for the spy planes. We only need to flip one vote to hopefully kill the bill. City residents, please sign and share this petition saying No to the Spy Plane!
Social (Distanced) Fun this Saturday Night!
All are invited to come to STL DSA's first PowerPoint Party, co-organized by the STL DSA Community Committee and Socialist Feminist Working Group! Come watch some of our own members share 5 to 10 minute presentations about a topic of their choice. Laughing and learning something new are guaranteed! RSVP here!
Interested in creating a more inclusive and welcoming space in STL DSA for parents, caregivers, and children? If you are a member that is a caregiver, or are interested in helping organize Socialist Sprouts, please fill out this short survey!
