Join the Community Committee! Next Meeting on January 9

Do you want to help others get more involved in STL DSA, make our chapter a welcoming and accessible organization and build a stronger organization that can fight for socialism? If so, join the Community Committee and fill out this interest form.

Our next meeting is next Monday, January 9, at 6:00 pm. We will decide soon if this event will be in person or via Zoom. RSVP here for the meeting.

Become an Internal Organizer!
Internal Organizers (IOs) are active members who take the lead on regularly reaching out to members (both new and those that have been members for some time). These IOs welcome members into the chapter and help them find areas where they can get involved and become more active within STL DSA.

If you’re interested in becoming an IO, or just want to learn more, please fill out the form here!

If you have any questions about the Community Committee or the work we’re doing, reach out to Co-Chairs Michael T. and Lauren P. at [email protected].

Volunteers Needed at the Shelter on Kennerly This Winter

As we enter the beginning of a long winter, shelter space is incredibly important to keeping our unhoused neighbors safe. Rep. Kimberly Ann-Collins has opened a shelter at 4145 Kennerly Ave., St. Louis, MO, 63113, which is currently housing 50 people nightly.

But one person can’t do it all alone, and volunteers are desperately needed to keep the shelter open and running. Roles include staffing the shelter itself and delivering food.

Please sign up for a shift at the Kennerly shelter during this crucial time, and help us meet the needs of our unhoused neighbors while we fight for St. Louis City to meet its responsibilities on shelter and permanent housing.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact our Acting Housing Justice Co-Chair Chris W. at [email protected].

Upcoming Ameren Rate Hike Action Meeting with Homes for All & Sierra Club

St. Louis ranks 6th in the nation for the highest level of energy burden, or percentage of income spent on utilities for black households. As Missourians are living with the effects of extreme weather due to the climate crisis, an affordable housing crisis, stagnant wages and years of financial upheaval from the pandemic, we cannot afford the $12/month fixed increase for each of its ratepayers that Ameren is requesting from the state.

Join Homes for All St. Louis and the Sierra Club on Wednesday, January 18, at 6 pm, for a Community Action Meeting in preparation for the Ameren rate case. The meeting will take place at the Deaconess Foundation in the Faithfulness room (1000 North Vandeventer Ave. St. Louis, MO 63113).

Find more information on the meeting and make sure to RSVP here if you plan to attend.
